Our daughter attends the Japanese International School in Hong Kong, and we can confidently say it's a hidden gem in Hong Kong. Although the school is relatively small, it boasts impressive facilities, including a swimming pool, gym, and various other amenities that enhance the learning experience.

The teachers here are not only professional but also genuinely caring. They foster an environment where students are eager to learn and develop a passion for knowledge. The well-structured PYP curriculum has provided a fantastic foundation for my daughter, nurturing her curiosity and research skills. One unique aspect of the school is its outdoor curriculum, which is a significant advantage. The proximity to nature, including the monkeys nearby, adds an exciting element to the students' learning experience.

Overall, we are thrilled with our choice of school. The Japanese International School truly stands out for its dedication to providing a holistic and engaging education for its students.

Thank you JIS for accepting me. The seven years I spent at JIS I won't be able to forget. The friends I made, the teachers I met, EVERYthing. Everything is just great about this school! Well... maybe I'm exaggerating a little bit, but it's still such a great school. Every nook and cranny of this school is full of surprises waiting to be found. Friends to be made. And adventures to be had.

JIS really put me on the edge of my seat because I was eager to learn more and thirsty for knowledge. Most activities at JIS I loved to do because they were fun to do.

I cannot describe how happy I am to be a student of JIS. I hope future students will be as happy and joyful as I have been all these years at JIS.

JISの好きな所は、主に三点あります。

まず、香港では珍しくそれぞれの施設が広々としており、自然豊かな中で、子どもたちが伸び伸びと学校生活を送ることができる点です。特にグランド施設が充実しており、子どもたちが楽しく学校に通えている要因の一つです。

また、少人数制なので、学年の垣根を超えて、先生・友人と知り合うことができ、海外にいながらもアットホームな環境の中で、安心して時間を過ごし学べる点です。

最後に、国際色豊かな環境に身を置き、且つ日本語を第二言語として選択することができ、言語及び文化を学べる点です。多文化の違いを認め合いながら、日本人として尊厳をもって生きていけるような礎が築けていると日々感謝しています。

There are three main things we like about JIS.

First, each facility is spacious, which is rare in Hong Kong, and children can enjoy their school life in a rich natural environment. The ground facilities are especially well equipped, which is one of the reasons why children enjoy attending the school.

In addition, the small class size allows students to get to know their teachers and friends beyond the boundaries of their grade level, and to spend time and learn in a safe and comfortable at-home environment, even though we live overseas.

Lastly, students can choose to study Japanese as a second language and learn about language and culture in an environment with a rich international flavour. We are grateful every day that my child is able to build a foundation for living with dignity as a Japanese person, while recognising multicultural differences.

I think JIS is a brilliant school because it provides lots of fun stuff; outdoor learning is one of them!

JISを選んだ理由は、赴任で香港に来ることになり、日本人学校と同じ校舎を使った学校ということで日本人もなじみやすい環境かと思いJISに入学することにしました。

JISはクラスの先生、スタッフの皆さんと生徒の距離が近いことが一番良い点だと思います。

クラスの人数がそれほど多くないということもあり学年が異なる生徒同士も名前と顔が大体わかっていたり

何かイベントがあるとみんなが知り合いというような雰囲気がとてもよかったと思います。

インターナショナルスクールはどうしても日本語教育がおろそかになってしまうかと思いますが、

日本語の先生たちもしっかり子供たちのレベルごとに対応していただき日本語の維持向上も図れたと思います。

We chose JIS because it is located in the same building as the Japanese Section, which would be a comfortable environment for students with a Japanese background to get used to.

The best thing about JIS is that the teachers and staff are very close to the students.

As JIS is a small school, students from different grades know each other's names and faces, and when there is an event, everyone knows each other.

Another reason we chose JIS was the Japanese class. Japanese language education is often neglected in international school settings, but the school's Japanese language teachers are very good at facilitating Japanese learning to children at all levels. They are very attentive to each child's level, which helps our children maintain and improve their Japanese language skills.

Our three kids all enjoy learning in the JIS community. The positive and family culture here fosters an atmosphere which enables them to learn effectively, express themselves freely and behave responsibly. They can also develop their own skills and confidence based on their interests and strengths. At the same time, they are also encouraged to work on their areas of improvement. A very balanced and all-rounded school!

わたしは、うんどうかい・スイミングガラなど、イベントが すきです。

なぜなら、３つチームがあり、きょうそうできるからです。でも、チームの中では、チームワークが とてもいいです。

JIS takes Kindness, Commitment, and Respect, very seriously. Japanese class teachers and we, the students, take care of each other.

In Japanese class, I like learning through games. We sometimes have cooking lessons as well, and it's very fun.

I also like school events such as Sports Day and the Swimming Gala. There are three different teams, and it's very competitive. But the teams have great teamwork and care for each other.

The teachers in JIS inspire students through creative teaching methods, such as the exhibition in P6 that allowed us to take action in the community starting off with something I was passionate about.

The various extracurricular activities, including swimming, arts and crafts, community clubs, sports teams, and a lot more create a wonderful atmosphere for sharing and exploring their interests.

JIS values a strong sense of community, through social events like buddy programs and odd socks day.

Events such as Sports Day, Swimming Gala, house challenges, and culture festivals help celebrate the students' talents, achievements and each child's individuality.

The school's emphasis on character education teaches students values including Kindness, Commitment, and Respect.

The school has thought of many ways to help us achieve these goals, such as Anti-Bullying Week, thank you notes, or kindness reminder posters.

JIS has not only enriched their school environment but also taught students essential life skills that will guide them to future experiences and relationships.

ほかは、にほんごクラスが　すきです。にほんごを　たくさん　しゃべれるし、おりがみもできるのが　すきです。おはなしサイコロをつかって、じぶんやみんなで　おはなしを　かんがえるのも　すきです。

I have so many reasons why I like JIS.

I like art classes the most because I love making toys and cards at home. I also like Japanese class because I can speak Japanese with my classmates and enjoy making origami. I like using "story dice" to create stories with my groupmates or by myself.

As a teacher at JIS, I've witnessed firsthand the profound impact our small community school has on students. My own children both attended for all of their primary schooling, thriving in an environment that emphasises inquiry-based learning and hands-on experiences. The outdoor learning curriculum not only sparked their curiosity but also instilled a love for nature and exploration.

わたしたちの学校のいいところは、イベントがいっぱいあるところです。たとえば、運動会、スイミングガラ、ビンゴナイト、BBQナイト、スクールコンサートなどがあります。友だちもやさしくて、私たちはみんななかよしで、ちがう学年の人とも遊びます。

この学校の先生は、みんなやさしくて、いつでも助けてくれます。勉強でわからないことがあるとアドバイスをくれます。JISにはいったばかりのころは、英語で言われていることは分かるけど、話すのは苦手でした。でも今は、英語で友だちも作れるし、ママよりもパパよりも英語が得意になりました。

The best part of JIS is that we have various events, such as Sports Day, Swimming Gala, Bingo Night, BBQ Night, and school productions/concerts. All my friends are very kind to me, and we are very close whether in the same year group or not.

All the teachers in this school are very kind and helpful. When I have a learning challenge, they give me advice to support me. When I joined JIS, I could understand English but needed time to tell what I needed or what I thought. Now, I speak English to make friends, and I speak English better than my parents.

I really like JIS because the teachers are caring, friendly, funny, and nice. We get opportunities to try new things, like going to camp. During P4, P5, and P6, we got to go to camp, and those camps were amazing! We learned lots of new things. I also like JIS because there are amazing facilities, and it is so much fun. My favourite thing about JIS is that everyone is really kind. They care about how you feel and always make sure you are learning something at your level.
